Organic brown whole linseeds aka flaxseeds, naturally high in omega 3 fatty acids. Sprinkle whole over cereal, salads or grind before use. Also use as a vegan egg replacement.
Linseeds Whole Brown, Organic
Organic Linseed has a distinctive nutty flavour and is an excellent source of fibre and omega 3 fatty acids. Linseed can be sprinkled onto cereals whole or added to bread but the nutrients are more readily accessible when ground first. Grind in small amounts and store both whole and any ground seeds in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
The seeds can also be ground down to make 'flax eggs' which can be used in baking as an egg replacement for vegans in recipes such as brownies.
Add 2-3 tbsp of warm water to 1 tbsp flaxseed and leave for 5 minutes for the seeds to swell and form a thick gel. This is equal to one egg.
Flax eggs may not work very well in:
recipes which call for more than 2 eggs (it could get too gooey in the middle)
coconut flour recipes (a tricky flour to bake with)
flourless recipes (usually requires hen's eggs for structure)
You might also like to try chia seeds as an alternative to flax eggs.
